Every Woman's Marathon Weekend

MEET OUR RUNNERS FOR THE EVERY WOMAN’S MARATHON 2025!

Hello Community!

The Every Woman’s Marathon is THIS WEEKEND! Shout out to our runners and friends who have said yes, have helped promote Rising Hearts and are helping to fundraise for the heart work we are grateful to keep doing. We are so excited to be together with our whole team this weekend in ARIZONA.

We have a handful of runners who have helped fundraise for us! No matter large or small, that financial support has it’s place to be and support in the heart work we do! And with this last effort, it will be our last big goal of $10,000 for 2025! We are just shy of raising $5,000 of the $10,000. The Every Woman’s Marathon fundraiser will conclude on December 15, 2025.

We can’t express our appreciation and gratitude to all the donors and friends we have made within the running and outdoor spaces who are supporting us in this effort! We want to shout out to the organizers of the Every Woman’s Marathon for collaborating with us, gifting entries, and to rabbit, for also gifting entries to our team as well! We wish we could bring more, and we hope to do even more for 2026. We have many more friends and sponsors who have all chipped in to support our training and journey to get to the start line together. Wopila tanka, many thanks!!!

Last reflections before EWM

Sunday was my long run workout dress rehearsal, a moderate effort on my almost tapered legs, with a little 2x2mile race day marathon effort feel in there. Head to toe, I got to sport all my new goodies: new running shorts and shirt from Rabbit, Hoka hat and shoes (shoes donated by Sole Focus in Harrisonburg), bracelet, Goodr glasses, and fueled by GU. It was such a wonderful tease of what I have to be excited about in a few days. This coming weekend, I will get do this alongside thousands of other women who’s energy will carry me, and spending an extended weekend with 12 other incredible runners on the Rising Hearts team who encourage and bring meaning to this run. It’s almost go time! It’s easy for my competitive spirit to get ultra-amped, so as I practiced during my run - I am focused on EASE, finding peace when at my edge. Running with steadiness, peace, gratitude, trust, and sustained by the energy of those around me who I get to share in this experience!

Less than one week out from running the Every Woman’s Marathon with Team Rising Hearts, and I’m grateful for the journey that brought us here! I’ve loved the virtual time we’ve shared as a team so far—talking through trip logistics, fundraising efforts, and training strategies—and I can’t wait for us all to be together in person soon.

This training block has been a shift for me after the last few years focused on ultramarathon trail running. I’m excited to see what I can do on race day. Even more so, I’m looking forward to being surrounded by the Rising Hearts community and raising funds for one of my favorite organizations.

Two Years of Running with Purpose

This month marks two full years of consistent running! When I first set out on this journey, my goal was simple: train for and complete a full marathon. Now, as I prepare to toe the line for my third marathon, I can’t help but look back in amazement at how far I’ve come. My very first training run lasted just 15 minutes, and it’s incredible to see how those early steps have grown into something so meaningful.

This progress has taken discipline and sacrifice, but I wouldn’t be here without the unwavering support of my family, my community, and organizations like Rising Hearts. Running can be such an expensive pursuit (even when it shouldn’t be) and I’m deeply grateful for the ways Rising Hearts helps make racing more accessible. From race entries to gear, nutrition, and travel stipends, their support ensures runners can show up to the start line feeling confident, prepared, and seen.

I’m incredibly thankful for this community and the opportunities it has provided. If you’re able, please consider donating to Rising Hearts to help other runners like me chase their dreams.

My initial goal for 2025 was to hike from rim to rim of the Grand Canyon. However, that plan changed rapidly due to the fires. One night, just 15 minutes before midnight, I stumbled upon an opportunity to submit an application to run the Every Woman’s Marathon on behalf of Rising Hearts. I applied on a whim and was chosen. When I received the notification of my selection, I was thrilled to participate in my first marathon! With only 2 months and 4 days to prepare for the big event, I utilized ChatGBT to design a training program for me. Many of my runner friends advised me to follow my training plan, emphasizing that consistency is crucial. I quickly became aware of how little I understood about stretching, fueling my body, and recovery methods. By asking questions, I gained insights into how to care for my body. During my runs, I discovered the impact of positive self-talk and the importance of expressing gratitude to my body. I have come to appreciate the scenery around me. I became more mindful of the music I choose to listen to. I have leveraged my social media platform to share both the positive and negative aspects of my training journey. I have expressed my gratitude to Rising Hearts for covering the costs associated with this run. Unfortunately, organized races can be quite expensive. The gear is also costly. With the support of Rising Hearts, this goal is within reach. They surprised us with a package of running gear and fuel supplements, which made me excited to truly see myself as a runner. I have noticed that sometimes the running community can be elitist and unwelcoming to newcomers like myself. Nevertheless, this opportunity has motivated me to ask questions that will best prepare me for this marathon. I hope my journey inspires new runners, slow runners, and anyone who enjoys movement. I run for myself. Comparing my runs based on finish times or speed does not drive me. What inspires me is the chance to challenge myself and to remind others that they too can achieve anything they desire. It all comes down to self-discipline, listening to your body, and never comparing your journey to anyone else's. I am thrilled to connect with all the other women chosen to run alongside me and support one another, as Rising Hearts is deeply embedded in community, which I truly appreciate about their mission.

We are in the final week of training and getting ready for all the Rising Hearts runners to participate in the 2025 Every Woman's Marathon in Scottsdale, Arizona. I can't believe we are here.  And I can't wait for my circle of sisters to grow. Now more than ever, community has been an even bigger part of my life. We are in some uncertain, difficult times, where attempts to pit each other against one another is intentional. Yet, the growth of community and the resilience of community, has grown exponentially.  It's beautiful.  Using running, a form of movement that can unite people together, brings more purpose to my why. So, feeling recovered (but perhaps not full) from the New York City Marathon just a week and half ago, I'm about to run another marathon. Not chasing a fast time, but chasing joy, laughter, and community, while using my feet and prayer to get from the start to the finish. Let's stoodis!

My name is Lace Coughlin, and in just a few days I’ll be traveling from a small town in New York to Scottsdale, Arizona for the Every Woman’s Marathon! Im geeking out!!

These past few years have been a deep journey of self-love, healing, and rediscovery. I’ve lost my dad a year and a half ago, my job eight months ago, and some relationships along the way… and with everything happening in the world, it’s been scary at times. But running has always comforted me.

This race isn’t just physical — I need it mentally. It’s a promise to myself that even with setbacks, when we keep showing up, good things happen. Running has been my constant for over 15 years. It’s where I’ve met incredible people, found community, and gained brothers and sisters through shared miles and stories.

I’m honored to have been selected to run with Rising Hearts for this marathon (and yes, that box of goodies they sent was amazing!). To be part of a team of strong, powerful women — that means everything to me. I have been locked in and enjoying every training run - the cold & snowy runs of recent (not so much!) Running has done so much for me - and I hope that when you see me. You see you. You can do this too. Its in you!

This isn’t about pace. It’s about finishing strong, soaking up the sun, and running side by side with my ancestors — as they shine with the sun and blow with the wind. I know ill feel my Dad with me Sunday & I know hes proud that I kept going and kept showing up for myself & standing up for what I believe on all days, even the ones that I didnt quite feel like it.

Here’s to resilience, community, and the next chapter of this wild, beautiful journey. Im so excited to see old running friends this weekend & make new ones. Im excited for a weekend of healing and heart work! Im excited to be a part of this team and Im excited to continue to be the best relative i can be for those around me!!!!

This training session has been the most fun I’ve ever had. The build-up from community support has been so beautiful and heartwarming. I’m still beside myself with how Rising Hearts continues to celebrate and uplift us as we move through this together. I’ve spent so much time the past year ultrarunning, and it felt so good to slow down, listen to my body, and just find joy in running again. This season reminded me to accept the good medicine that comes from movement and to be surrounded and supported by community every step of the way. The love and support from Rising Hearts has gifted me with the reminder that yes, we are worth it. As Indigenous runners, yes, we are worthy. Yes, we deserve to be celebrated. Yes, we deserve to be here. I’m incredibly grateful to Creator for this opportunity and cannot wait to cross that finish line with everyone.

Despite taking two weeks off from running, this training journey and preparation for the upcoming race have allowed me to truly reflect on who I am as a runner. I began running during my junior high years, around the time I first became a woman. For four days, I ran three times a day, and the most important run was always in the morning, when our Holy Ones are up and blessing the day. From then on, I wanted to keep running.

My mom continues to be my biggest inspiration; her high school team was undefeated, and she was simply a badass! I wanted to be just like her. I never ran for time, placement, or appearance. I ran to see how far I could go and to learn something new about myself with every step.

As a new mother to a two-year-old, I stepped away from running during postpartum, and it was one of the hardest things to return to. I started small, aiming to run just one mile without stopping. Fast forward to today, and I’m amazed by how far I’ve come. When I look at my son, I’m reminded of how beautiful life is and how beautiful my body is. This same body carried him, brought him into this world, and continues to nurture him to be strong and fast.

The memories I have from running before becoming a mother have shaped the runner I am today - not as fast, not as slender, but strong, grounded, and resilient. I’m grateful for the ability to run, for the gift of motherhood, and for every opportunity that continues to come my way.

I’m especially looking forward to connecting with the incredible runners in my cohort and running for the good we want to see in the world. We are powerful, we are resilient, and we are daughters of amazing women. Without our mothers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. It’s a beautiful reminder to carry with me as I run.

Over the last few weeks of this training block, during turbulent times, it's been uplifting to have a greater purpose and mission behind the miles. Knowing that we are all going to Scottsdale to represent Rising Hearts and support one another has really made a difference to how I've approached my runs - with joy and excitement, and I can't wait for the EWM weekend.

I joined the team late, unsure if I would have enough time to train and doubting my abilities. I’ve had a year of up and down medical issues, a surgery- and running has been suffering. It has been frustrating to not be myself. This training cycle has been a reminder of what my body is capable of, and to be ok with where I am at, to celebrate each day of training.

In addition, my connection to home and our ceremonial calendar has been very strong during my training plan for EWM. I drive home a lot to participate in ceremonies (4.5 hours each way). Sometimes I’m so tired and my runs don’t get done. I’ve missed long runs but as I reflect on the ceremony that occurred the same time as the scheduled long runs , I am grateful for the family, the matriarchs, the elders I have been around and I know that in itself will get me through the miles. Every Woman’s Marathon miles will be for all the strong beautiful women in my life, and to celebrate my own strength and resilience.

Askwali for including me on this team. Together we will finish with positivity and good hearts.
